Ranking highly in the search engine results is very important in generating high traffic to your website/blog. In addition to having good, relevant content on your site one of the best ways to increase your search ranking is to get high quality backlinks to your site.

A backlink is simply a clickable link that directs to another website (yours). The most powerful backlinks are one-way backlinks. One way backlinks are best; these are when a site links to your site but you don‘t reciprocally link back to them.

Putting backlinks in forums is a great way to go about doing this. Locate Forums Relating To Your Niche:
“Relating to your niche“ is the key term!. You want to be sure to find forums related to your niche – the topic of your website. Probably the easiest way to do this is to type in your niche into Google with the word “forum” after it. Let’s say you have a blog on healthy living. You’d type into Google “Healthy Living Forum”, or something similar.

There are two basic reasons why you want to find forums that actually relate to your niche.. First, the search engines will usually give more weight to links pointing to your site if they come from sites centred around the same niche as your site. Secondly, you are far more likely to come across parties that are interested in your site by placing it in the appropriate forums.

Join The Best Forums:
After finding the forums you want, you need to  decide on which ones you should join. Click the links to visit about half a dozen of the top search results. You can usually browse through forums without having to sign up, only when you actually want to participate, do you need to join. If you land on a forum that won’t let you view unless you join, forget it and move on.

Its only really worth your while to join popular forums so take a look at how many members there are in each forum you visit. You also need to make sure those members are active. Go into one of the more popular forums categories and scan down the list of threads to see when the last posting was made. This information is usually in the right hand column of the forum threads table. If you see a lot of posts made in the last 24 hours, you’ve found a forum with lots of active members. A popular forum like this will attract the search engines and therefore your links will be picked up quite quickly. Search engines tend to love sites with lots of frequently updated, relevant content. This is the ideal type of forum.

The last important step before joining a forum is to make sure that it allows you to add a “signature” to all of your posts. Jump into one of the more popular threads on the forum. Scroll down and look at the posts to see if anyone has a signature showing at the bottom of their post. There will usually be a horizontal line after the body of the post and some text and/or links underneath it. Often people just have a quote or witty saying, but sometimes they will have links as well. Not everyone will have a signature, but try to find some members who do. Signatures are crucial, because this is where you are going to put the links to your site.

When you find a forum that fit’s the bill, follow the steps to sign up. You only need to find a few to begin with, you can always find more later on 

Your Signature:
Log in to the forum. Once there go to your profile. Often this will be called ‘User CP’ or ‘User Profile’. In this area you can edit things like your avatar, your bio and preferences. Look for the part that says something like ‘Edit signature’ and click that. You’ll see a text field where you can type in the text you want to appear beneath all your posts. This is where you’ll put the backlinks to your site.

Forums use a special kind of code to allow members to format their posts. It’s called BBCode and it’s quite simple to use once you get the hang of it. Copy the examples below and change the URL and text to your URL and some catchy keyword-rich text. Paste the code into you signature box and save it.

You can see in the code above where you need to edit the domain to be your domain. In this example, ‘Coin Collecting’ will be the anchor text for the link. This is where you want to put your keywords. Almost all forums will allow you to have a link in your signature.

If you want to make your signature bold, just add the bold tags around it like this:

Most forums will allow you to bold the text in your signature. If you add the bold code and your signature still doesn’t come out in bold then it’s you know the bold formatting is not allowed.

Some forums will also allow you to change the color of the text, although the anchor text will come out as the default link color, usually blue. Here’s how you change the text color:

You can also combine formatting. This would make your signature red and bold (except for the link text which will usually be blue bold).

One final tip for creating your signature. Less is more. If you make your signature look spamming people will treat you like a spammer. You don’t have to use up all available lines in your signature. Make it short, sweet and to the point. If you post great content and people are interested they will click your link.

Step 4: Participate!
The first three steps were all preparation. Now you get to start creating backlinks to your site! It’s simple, just participate in the forum. Post good content, ask questions. Try to help people out by answering questions. Be nice, be helpful.

Every post you make will give you a backlink to your site. The higher the quality of your post, the more powerful your backlink will be, at least in Google. Because Google looks at the text surrounding a link to determine the relevancy of a link having good content in your posts is much more valuable than having a post that says something like, “great post, I agree”. If you simply participate in the forum and try to be friendly and helpful chances are your content will take care of itself.

Link Market’s link exchange is accomplished by a very simple and extremely effective 1-2-3 link exchange step process. Link Market users sign in to their account and browse the link directory. Once appropriate links have been found, the user places them in the link cart. Once ready to send the link exchange request, the user goes to the link cart and sends the link request. At that time, the link request gets sent out. This is where Link Market’s 1-2-3 link exchange step process starts.

Terms:

Webmaster (RQ) is a Link Market member that is requesting a link exchange.

Webmaster (RC) is a Link Market member that is receiving a link exchange request.

Step

Webmaster (RC) receives a link request via e-mail and is instructed to log in to the Link Market account to respond to the link exchange request. Once logged in, the Webmaster goes to My Account and clicks on Current Jobs.

In Current Jobs, the Webmaster will see all of the jobs needed for a link exchange to take place. The Webmaster would then select one link and click on the respond link. This will then open a new Web page where the user may examine the link and either agree to link exchange or not.

If the user doesn’t agree to the link request, then this link exchange gets stopped and placed in the link request history. If the user does agree to the link exchange, then this link exchange request gets forwarded from the Webmaster’s current jobs and gets placed into Webmaster (RQ)’s Current Jobs.

Step

Webmaster (RQ) is required to place Webmaster (RC)’s link on his or her link page. Once RQ does, RQ submits his or her URL address to the link page where he or she has placed Webmaster (RC)’s link. At this moment, Link Market opens Webmaster (RQ)’s link page and looks for Webmaster (RC)’s link. If the link exists on the page, then step 2 is finished and this job gets moved from Webmaster (RQ)’s to Webmaster (RC)’s Current Jobs. Otherwise, this job gets marked as pending in step 2 until Webmaster (RQ) submits the valid link page.

Step

Webmaster (RC) is required to place a link to Webmaster (RQ)’s Web site. Once that’s done, Webmaster RC submits the URL address to the link page where he or she has placed Webmaster (RQ)’s link. Link Market opens Webmaster (RQ)’s link page and looks for Webmaster (RC)’s link. If the link exists, then step 3 is finished and this link exchange gets marked as successful. Otherwise, this job will be marked in step 3 as pending until Webmaster (RQ) submits a valid link page.

Backlinks have become one of the most important aspects of Search Engine Optimization. Backlinks, also known as “Inbound Links,” refer to the links that are placed on other websites and that are directed towards your website. They are what tells the search engines that you have a site of interest to others who have linked to it, thus raise your ranking on the search engines.

Backlinks are important to climb the page ranking in the search engines. What other websites say about you is critical for search engine credibility. If you can control what the links say and where they link to in your site then you can influence the search engine results. Therefore, your marketing campaign for your sites has to include the effort of obtaining link popularity.

While building backlinks, you need to aim for quality instead of quantity. Search engines give more credit to a link from a site related to yours than a link from a site that is not related to yours. A site with few quality backlinks will have a higher position for its targeted keywords compared to a website with many unrelated links. Especially if you combine that with relevant content, links to important pages, meta tags, descriptions, title, h1 tags, and sitemaps. However, most search engines do not consider hyperlinks as backlinks.

There are a number of ways to build backlinks for your site. Backlinks can be bought or obtained for free. There are a number of directories available on Internet, and you can find free or paid directories for submitting your site. Your site will be listed in these directories after the editor has approved it. You need to make sure that the directory is an established one since search engines give more credit to links coming from quality sites. In bidding directories, you can place a bid and if your bid is among the highest bids then your site is displayed on the homepage. If someone outbids you then your listing is removed from the homepage.

In a link exchange, one webmaster places a link on his website that points to another webmasters website, and vice versa. But here you must note that one way link holds more strength than a two way link. Moreover, in the last Google update, reciprocal links were one of the targets of the search engine’s latest filter. Many of these links were simply not relevant, and were just discounted. So while the outbound links still got counted, the irrelevant inbound link was ignored.

Many webmasters have more than one website. Sometimes these websites are related, sometimes they are not. You have to be careful about interlinking multiple websites on the same IP. If you own several related websites, then a link to each of those websites on a page could hurt you, as it may look like to a search engine that you are trying to do something fishy. You will probably have heard of ‘3 way links’. There are some issues with that as well. Other than price, the most ‘popular’ system is a little clunky to use and the links are not so close to topic.

Article directory, a directory that maintains a large collection of articles, is one of the best ways to build links. It allows you to publish your articles along with your links in the resource box. You provide them for free with something they need content and in return they also provide you for free with something you need quality backlinks. Of course, you should make sure that the article you submit is of good quality and informative in order to get approved and published. They usually have a number of categories and you will have to find a category suitable for your website.

Posting in discussion forums and blogs is also a way to get quality backlinks with the anchor text you want. There are a number of forums and blogs that allows you to place your links in your profile and in your signature. You need to look for a forum or blog that is related to your niche and then make some quality posts or comments and add your links in the signature. Once your posts are indexed, search engines will give some credit to your website. If the forum or blog is a respected one, a backlink is valuable. In some cases the forum or blog administrator can edit your post, or even delete it if it does not fit into the forum or blog policy. Also, sometimes administrators do not allow links in posts, unless they are relevant ones.

 

There are many benefits to article marketing. One of the most important advantages is the number of backlinks that your articles can generate. Another source for acquiring backlinks that usually goes unnoticed are RSS feeds. You can use RSS feed for a variety of reasons. One reason is to receive great exposure for your website or blog. Once you submit your website to an RSS Feed Directory your feed can be subscribe to by numerous readers, thus creating great exposure for your website. RSS feeds are also a great backlinks tool, you can not only generate backlinks every time your RSS feed is subscribe to, but you will also get free backlinks from each RSS feed directory you use to submit your website.

 

For best results submit to about 15 directories at a time to spread the amount of traffic you will receive. Spreading your traffic will also help with you Google ranking. There have been many stories of servers crashing due to too much traffic from social networks such as Digg, Sphinn and Stumble Upon.

It took me a while to learn how to take advantage of these social networking websites, but I am glad I took time out to catch up with the rest of the world.
