Keywords: Increase Link Popularity, Get Traffic, Link Building

To increase link popularity, you need solid link building techniques. Link building allows you to establish relevant inbound links to your website, which in turn increases search engine rankings and helps you get traffic.

If you aren’t familiar with the different methods people use to increase link popularity and get traffic, the first thing you need to know is that not every link building method is considered acceptable. In fact, some of the methods used to increase link popularity are considered so unethical that they can actually get you in trouble with the various search engines.

To help you differentiate between what is ethical and what is not, here is a list of the most common link building methods used to get traffic:

Social Bookmarking

There has been a lot of discussion lately in regards to using social bookmarking as a way to get traffic and increase link popularity. Some people think that this link building technique borders on unethical.

The truth is that it depends on how you utilize social bookmarking sites. If you are an active member of a social bookmarking community who posts links to a personal website and other relevant sites to increase link popularity for everyone, you are doing nothing wrong. If, on the other hand, you create an account and repeatedly submit your own links and nothing else to get traffic, you are participating in spam-like behavior.

Spamming

Spamming can sometimes get traffic to your website, but it is not the best way to increase link popularity. Most of the search engines frown upon spamming and have the ability to catch inexperienced spammers within a month or two.

The following link building techniques are considered unethical spamming by the major search engines: participation in unrelated and centralized link farms, automatically generated doorway pages, and false redirects.

Article Submission

Manual and automated article submission is another link building technique that has garnered proven results over the years. Article submission is widely thought to be an ethical way to increase link popularity and get traffic. Nevertheless, there are exceptions to the rule.

For example, article submission that is fully automated but not targeted is usually considered spam. It is also a huge waste of time when compared to other link building strategies. If you want to get traffic and increase link popularity, you must submit articles to the right directories.

CBuying Links

Search engines often advise against buying backlinks as a way to increase link popularity and get traffic. The reason is because it cheats their ranking system and is therefore considered unethical. Even so, there are plenty of website owners who employ this link building technique and reap great rewards.

If you want to give this link building strategy a try, the key is to start slowly by buying only a few backlinks. Buying 1,000 links in one day looks suspicious. You will also want to be careful as to where you buy your links from. Ten quality backlinks will help you increase link popularity and get traffic; 100 poorly regarded backlinks will not. Keep in mind you backlinks need to come from what search engines will consider good neighborhoods.

Link Exchanging Increases Traffic To Websites

Link Exchange is, without a doubt, one of the most effective means used in getting targeted website traffic. In fact, when search engine optimization was still not a very popular topic, link exchange was already being used in driving traffic to websites. Thus, for people who have been in the doing on-line businesses for a long time, link exchange is not a new idea anymore.

What happens in a link exchange is, as its name suggests, links from different sites sharing similar contents are exchanged to be posted in each other\’s website. To put it more simply, a website owner would post another website\’s link in his site. In exchange, his link will also be posted in other sites – the same sites whose links he posted in his own website. So, it\’s like sales agents exchanging ads and posting these ads in their own billboards.

How does this exchanging of links work and what good does it do to help websites generate a lot of traffic?

What makes link exchange very appealing is because it targets specific necessities that website owners would want to be fulfilled in whatever traffic generating method they use. These, among others, include customer specific, free, and risk-free.

No matter how many links you place in a site to link back to your own website if the site you where you posted your link does not have any connection to your website, most likely, your link posting would not make a lot of difference in bringing people to your site. Link exchange assures website owners that the people who would be seeing their links are really potential customers owing to the similarity of content that the websites have among each other. This gives a very high possibility of the link being clicked, thus, also increasing the possibility of having more visitors that are most likely to become customers of the site.

Nowadays, a lot of tools and strategies that promise to increase traffic to websites are being sold. For most people, it is really very difficult to invest on things that they are not really sure to actually work. Thus, making use of advertised, thus for sale, means to generate traffic comes as a difficult decision to make. On the other hand, link exchange can be done for free. The payment you give is the same service you give – posting links of websites to your site and having your link posted on other sites.

Since link exchange is for free, then there is no risk involved if it does not work for you. You never face the disadvantage of losing your money but there is a very high possibility of gaining the advantage of getting a lot of traffic to your website. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this deal promises that you will not be at the losing part if ever this method does not generate your targeted website traffic.

Needless to say, link exchange is nothing but a guarantee that you get the result you want – high ranking in search engines, the possibility of generating customers without the fear of losing anything!

Build Traffic And Ranking With Reciprocal Linking

The aim of a reciprocal linking strategy is usually twofold: First to attract visitors from the linking partner to your own site and, secondly, to improve your page ranking with the search engines. A higher page ranking, especially with Google, indicates more relevance when inquiries are made on a given keyword. Relevance encourages the search engines to send free, targeted traffic to your website.

Important Considerations

1. Build online relationships. Exchanging links with other relevant websites is a great way to start building partnerships with other website owners and may open the door for future joint venture requests.

2. Build your link popularity. Most search engines view sites that have many links to them as being important. So, the more sites that link to your site, the higher your site might rank. But again, make sure that all reciprocal links are relevant to your site or the search engines will penalize you.

3. Avoid exchanging links with sites that have a huge link directory. If your site is listed on page 43 in your category of another site’s link directory, few people will ever see your link. Although a link will be generated to your site for the search engines, you will not receive much traffic from the link exchange. Try to exchange links with sites where your link will be displayed on the first, or at the most, the second page of another site’s link directory.

4. Don’t exchange links with everybody that asks. What advantage is there in exchanging links with a site that sells wedding favors when your site is about dog training? Anyone that visits the wedding favor site will be looking for information concerning weddings, not dog training, and very few will click on your link regardless of how high the page rank is for the wedding site. The key here is to exchange links only with sites that are relevant to your site or to your keywords.

5. The main goal of any linking strategy is to get more traffic to a website. Reciprocal linking can work for or against you in this matter depending on the site that you exchange links with. If you exchange links with sites that receive a lot of traffic, some of that traffic may be diverted to your site. On the other hand, if you exchange links with a low traffic site, you may divert some of your traffic to the other site without seeing a similar return. The solution is to exchange reciprocal links with a site with a page rank no lower than one level below yours and to try to exchange links with many sites with a higher page rank. Ideally, you would seek to exchange links with sites that have at least a PR 4.

How To Set Up A Link Page

The optimum way to set up a link page is to enter all links manually. Yes, it is time consuming but when you are starting out, this is the best way to do it.

You would first need to set up a page on your website just for your link categories. You can call this page anything you like such as Links, My Partners, Link Partners, My Link Partners, etc. Set up this page with the major categories and subcategories that are relevant to your site. Then, set up a page for each subcategory that will contain the actual links. Test to be sure that whenever anyone clicks on a subcategory that they are taken to the appropriate link page.

Prepare a short 3 – 5 line ad about your website or your product and include the URL to your website. This should be in HTML code for easy uploading. Each linking company has their own procedure, but generally, each time you ask to exchange links, you’ll need to copy and paste the other website’s HTML code onto your link page under the correct category and subcategory. You will then need to upload the updated page to your website.

Once this is done, let the other website know on which of your pages they can find their link. If the other website owner approves the link exchange, they should add your link to their link page and inform you on exactly what page you can find it.

Check to make sure that your link has been added to their site. If they have not added your link, you have the option of contacting the website owner as to why or of removing their link from your site.

Mention reciprocal linking on any internet marketing forum and you will be sure to get a barrage of heated replies. There is a continual debate about the advantages and disadvantages involved in reciprocal linking and both sides make convincing statements.

If you do decide to get involved in reciprocal linking, join only well established link exchanges that allow you to approve or disapprove the link. Avoid link farms or link exchanges that will automatically exchange your link with their entire database regardless of the relevancy to your website.

Link Popularity Means More Traffic

The first place that a potential customer goes to find a product or service on the internet is a search engine. The higher you are listed in a search engine the better the possibility of your site being found. If the potential customers do not find you in their search, chances are that they will not visit your site and as a result you will not have an opportunity at making a sale with the prospect.

What has this all got to do with link popularity? Well, link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your website by the search engines. It determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a search engine by a potential customer when looking for a product or service.

There are a few things you should be aware of and guard against in your quest for link popularity. These can be summed up in two words: Quantity and Quality. You will not achieve link popularity just by linking up with a large number of other websites. In fact, it may work against you. There are web sites that are known as “link farms” containing line after line of indiscriminate links. Search engines will discriminate against your website if you are associated with a link farm, so steer clear of them!

The quality of the site you are linking to is also super important. So be sure to check out the site you are linking to before you commit to linking. If you have any reservation about your visitors seeing that you are linking to a site that is indiscriminate and cheap, forget about it. Linking to sites of poor quality will only lessen your link popularity, if not completely destroy it.

Here are some things you need to do to achieve link popularity and improve your rankings on the popular search engines.

The fastest way to get your foot in the door is to get a listing on some popular directories. You can do this manually or with the aid of software. There are several excellent software products on the market and when you consider the cost versus the time, you can decide which course is best for you.

The next step after you have attained directory listings is to locate other quality sites that will increase your link popularity. Try to find sites that are in some way related to yours, so not only will your link popularity increase, but your customer base may also be expanded. You want to avoid your competitors and look for sites that are useful to your site’s visitors. For instance, if you are selling life insurance, someone selling health insurance would be a good link choice. By linking to a related site that will be relevant to your website’s traffic, you are increasing both of your site’s business prospects – and both of your sites’ link popularity.

Remember, your criteria are quality, highly ranked, non-competing websites that have a links or resources page. Go to these sites and objectively assess them. Look at the quality of the product, the graphics, and the ease of use. Then check out the other sites they are linked to, and determine if your own site would fit in with this crowd. Again you can do this manually, or with a software program.

It is a lot of hard work and other than the software programs to assist you there are no shortcuts to achieve link popularity. So be prepared for a long journey to the top. This is one of those areas where patience, commitment, and persistence pay off. Good Luck!

P.S.: You want to be sure to have an attractive and interesting site or you will never persuade anyone to link up to you.

Boost Traffic With Linking Strategies

Optimizing your website for high ranking on the SERP is a step by step process. Great content, SEO optimized pages and an amazing website layout are not enough to bring traffic. Being on the Web means being a part of the Web and not an isolated entity. Google places no importance on solitary websites. To get Google’s attention and increase traffic, you need solid linking strategies. However, it is not only Google you should consider when you collect links. All other search engines follow links to spider and index web pages. Links are like channels driving search engines and traffic to your website.

The most important aspect you need to consider at the very beginning of the process is that you’ll need quality links to rank high on the SERP. If you manage to gather more than 100 links, the quality of the links is not as important anymore. Not for Google.

Remember, collecting back links does not imply using link farms or other black hat SEO techniques. If you are part of a linking farm you might have your website seriously penalized by Google. Honest linking strategies take time and effort to develop, but it’s time worth spending. Think about it: on the web, businesses are built or destroyed depending on their positioning into the SERPs of Google, Yahoo, MSN etc. As the average user relies on Google, ranking high in Google should be your main priority. The only way you could achieve lasting results is collecting links. Google’s algorithms have changed so often, but one thing has remained constant: the importance Google places on incoming and outgoing links.

The number of links is important, but so is the quality of the sites linking to your website. If you can get links from highly ranked sites it is almost certain your site will rank highly too. You need to link to related sites, to show Google and the other search engines your main concern is providing useful resources to your visitors and valuable content for the web. Getting back links from industry related websites also has another very important advantage: their clients might have interest in what you have to offer. As a result you’ll increase your chances of increasing traffic and sales.

From the entire link collecting strategies available online, one of the most used is writing articles. Most of the websites using this technique are sites on SEO, but any type of site should use this strategy. The trick is: write unique articles and don’t “over-submit” them.

When it comes to articles, there is another very important thing you have to remember: online branding. Indeed, articles are a great means to make your name known and to persuade readers to trust your products and services. Do write regularly, let’s say twice a month, and try to keep a high quality standard of your writing.

Secret Viral Tactic That Will Explode Your Traffic And Your Backlinks!

How much would you pay for a system that would literally explode both your traffic and your backlinks? What if I said you could actually implement the system without spending a penny?

Viral marketing is about getting others to spread your message for you. It works on the same principal as pyramid spelling! For example, you tell two people about your offer, and those two people each tell another two people and so it goes on. You only spoke to two people, but within a very short space of time hundreds of people know about your offer!

We’d all like a marketing system that worked in that way wouldn’t we?

Usually for a piece of content or a product to go viral, one of two things needs to happen:

Your content or product needs to be so unique or funny that people see it and automatically feel the urge to tell their friends or list about it

Or

You need to provide an “incentive” for your visitors to tell others about it!

In the first scenario, where no incentive is required, you can expect the viral process to happen rapidly, in some cases thousands of visitors can be generated in hours.

In the second scenario, the manufactured traffic won’t come as fast, but never the less, it will come, and keep coming for a long time. Even with scenario two, your content needs to be good, and in particular your incentive that promotes the viral behaviour needs to be of real value!

Setting up an affiliate scheme for your product and then offering high commissions to the top players in your niche is one form of viral incentive. Another is to give away rebrandable ebooks and software. Another is to use a tell-a-friend script with the offer of a reward for people who “tell their friends”.

Now for the secret tactic that I promised you in the title, it’s a tactic I use and it works!

What about offering your visitor a free gift in return for a link on a page of their site? Sounds ok, but not that viral?

Well think about it for a moment. You get backlinks, and the backlinks improve your rankings. Improved rankings bring you more traffic. The additional traffic generates more backlinks, which lead to even better rankings and even more traffic!

Now do you see the viral potential? This is a little used viral tactic that can bring big results.

I’ve presented the viral tactic above in it’s simplest form. Even in this form it can be highly effective, but with a simple “tweak” it can bring an avalanche of traffic quickly in addition to the traffic that comes from the improved rankings. All you need is to think big, and think viral.

Website Traffic: Getting the Better Backlink

Everyone agrees that getting backlinks, or links from other people’s sites, is important to helping your website get good page rank and thus visitors. However, did you know that not all backlinks are created equal?

For example, a common way of getting backlinks is exchanging links with other people’s sites — that’s called “reciprocal linking.” However, a much more valuable link in the search engine’s eyes is a one-way link from someone else’s website to your own.

Furthermore, the best one-way backlinks are from sites that are about a topic that is the same or similar to yours. So, for example, if your site is about fishing, then getting a link from another site about fishing is the best type of link you can get. The search engines call this “relevance” and relevant backlinks are always better than links from websites that have nothing to do with the subject of your website.

One of the best ways to get one-way, relevant backlinks is by submitting your site to directories, which is usually a free service, but some directories do charge a nominal fee. You can find a plethora of directories by going to Google and typing “search engine friendly directories” in the search bar.

When you visit one of these directories, you will see that a directory is a categorized index of websites. You will see main categories, such as Arts & Entertainment, Business, Computers, etc. Under each main category, you will find subcategories.

To submit your website to a directory, go to that directory and click on “Add URL” or a similarly named link, and then add your website to the appropriate category and subcategory. For example, if you are submitting your fishing website, look for the “Recreation” category (or something similar) and then the subcategory “Fishing.”

You will need to enter your website URL, the title of your website, a short description, a list of keywords, and an email address. It’s best to provide an email address related to your website. So if your website domain is myfishingsite.com then you would want to use an email address like webmaster@myfishingsite.com.

If your submission is accepted by the directory, then a link to your website will be published on a page that is only about fishing, thereby giving you a great one-way and relevant backlink. As a side note, you do not have provide a reciprocal link, although most directories will offer that option …
